Hans Sparschuh finds his motifs on billboards and house walls or lost places in the form of faded graffiti, light reflections or shattered remains - subject to change, at the mercy of transience. The photographer captures the one moment. The motif is only there for that moment and the next moment it is changed, pasted over, painted over, torn down or destroyed. Cold, wind, sun and rain change the colors and shapes of the motifs. New layers keep appearing, almost like the technique of rubbing. Often all that remains are fragments, unintentional collages that have nothing to do with the original history or message. Inevitably, there is something independently new that attracts attention and is worth looking at. Hans Sparschuh is a filmmaker, photographer, documentarist and author.
