The artist

Creating illusions.

Born in Tangermünde in 1954, Dietmar Werner first discovered the world of theater while training as a painter. In 1979 he passed the entrance exam for the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts at his first attempt and studied scenic painting. Theater work, teaching and forays into communication design and urban development followed, always driven by the wish to bring color to the gray.

Today he paints freely: landscapes along the Elbe river, from Saxony and the Baltic island of Rügen, alongside homages to music and spatial compositions. In oil, acrylic, pastel, oil pastel and watercolour, full of light and open skies. “Heimat” is the German word for home, the place you belong.
